Welcome to the Friday Five, the brain child of Fancy Boys Club creator Brandon Andreasen. Each week, we will give four questions and a top five list for all the Fancy Boys contributors to tell stories and give horrible top five lists for.
This week, with the Emmys happening this Sunday, we’re focusing on the small screen. We asked our writers all kinds of questions about television. Here’s what we asked and what they answered.

With fall in full swing, we’re headed into the last quarter of this year… and this decade. This is the last chance for studios to get their films out to have them get Oscar consideration and to make the lists of all the critics whom they undoubtedly hate. What are the films I’m most looking forward to? Let’s count them down:

If you were to imagine the worst possible place and time to perform stand-up comedy, I assume that place would be Milwaukee, Wisconsin and that time would be during a Packers/Vikings playoff game.
That is exactly where I found myself on January 5, 2013, performing at the Northern Lights Theater at the Potawatami Hotel & Casino–on a stage that has hosted such memorable acts as Ringo Starr, Don Rickles, Willie Nelson and B.B. King–in front of an audience of 12 people.

I hate football. Actually, thats a lie. I love football. I love having a boozy Sunday, enjoying beer while watching the games at my favorite bar. I just hate everything else about it. Like, I hate Antonio Brown. He is a slimy, creepy shithead. I hate Roger Goodell, using Bart Starr’s widow as a shield to avoid getting booed in an NFL stadium. I hate everything about both teams from the state of Florida, and there isn’t a way for the Redzone network to mute both games.
Mostly though, I hate how football makes me feel, having to balance my feelings of rooting for people who are going to have dementia and CTE by the time they are 50. Having to root for people who are notable creeps and scumbags. And mostly, I hate…you know, no. It’s none of that. I just really fucking hate the Florida teams. Lets get to the rankings!

When there is breaking news about comedy, there are two guarantees.
The first is that it’s never good news. There is never an article about John Mulaney curing some disease or Sarah Silverman winning Le Mans. It’s only a story about controversy.
Knowing that, the second guarantee is that for a few days, my Facebook feed becomes fucking insufferable. Between hot takes, juicy bits, and other nonsense, every comedian wants to lob out some nugget for all of social media to socially mediate. I’m also totally guilty of this myself, so I apologize if I’ve made your timeline insufferable.
So, if you are a comedian or know a comedian, or know anyone that has watched a Netflix special or has an opinion about free speech, your timeline these past 24 hours has no doubt been filled with stories of Shane Gillis.
And I’m about to make it worse.

Week 2 is in the books, and I’m here with the only recap you need. Here’s the Winners & Losers of Week 2 of the NFL season.

Fancy Boys founder Matt Drufke doesn’t know anything about football. Lucky for him, Brandon Andreasen and Jack Baker do.
Each week, Matt emails Brandon and Jack NFL questions, they then immediately go and make fun of his lack of knowledge in a secret group chat. They then go and answer the questions. Here are those answers.
Continue reading “Fancy Boys Football Week 2 NFL Mailbag”With only a tad over two weeks left in the regular season and the pitchers having two, maybe three, starts remaining for each of them, it’s time to take a look at who could drop the Cy Young Award onto their mantel.
First, a little bit about the man. Cy Young, adopted by poor Chinese immigrants and christened Egg Foo Young… hold on, wrong source. Let’s try that again. Cy Young, was born Denton True Young – seriously, his middle name was ‘True’ – in 1867. He threw the pill for the following teams:

This is the period in the cinematic year when studios stop sending us their blockbusters (how they make their money) and get ready to start sending us their Oscar bait (how they feel good about themselves). Both now, and in the spring when the same thing happens in reverse order, can be a feast or famine for a film that the studio doesn’t know exactly how well it could do. Sometimes, a film can find the right audience and become a massive and unlikely hit. More likely, a film can get lost and not find the audience it deserves.
I hope The Farewell finds the audience that it deserves, because it’s one of the best movies of the year.
