This Sacred Rite: Farewell to the Dallas Mavericks

This Sacred Rite: Farewell to the Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas basketball team was eliminated. Led by the prodigious, meteoric Luka Doncic, the Mavs gave the Clippers a true first round scare. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be completed. We honor the fallen and quench their flame with a poem.

Be Thankful I Am Through: Farewell to the Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland basketball team was eliminated today. Though they won the thrilling, first-ever play-in tournament, they ultimately fell to the almighty Lakers. We honor them, quench their candle, and pledge our undying fealty to Damian Lillard’s 2019-20 season with a poem.

Won’t Shut Up, Damn Well Won’t Dribble: The Day the Bucks Refused to Play

Won’t Shut Up, Damn Well Won’t Dribble: The Day the Bucks Refused to Play

Following yet another police shooting of an unarmed black man, this time in Wisconsin, chaos broke out in Kenosha. A 17-year old white man terrorist who crossed over from Illinois killed two people, wounding another. For the last decade, I have taken the time to give each team that fails to make the Finals their due respect, a rite my friends and I have come to call Candling- blaring Elton John’s anthem to Marilyn Monroe as another team’s light is quenched. For most of the basketball world, a team is eliminated and instantly forgotten, just a stepping stone for someone better. Not in my eyes. These playoffs, rather than documenting the great achievements of the winners, I will be your guide as we pay tribute to the most necessary party in sports- the losers.

How the NHL Playoff System Works… or Doesn’t

Life is complicated enough right now. COVID is nowhere near slowing down, mostly thanks to the minions who believe it’s a hoax. There are more than 150,000 people who would love to debate those residents of Idiocracy if they could but they can’t, as they died.

Now we have sports making a comeback… of sorts. In a quick breeze let’s rush through what’s up before we get into the nitty gritty dirt band of details for the NHL playoff system.
