It was always about hate…

It was always about hate…

Last week, I was horrified when reading the stories of ICE agents in Chicago dragging naked children out of their beds and putting them in vehicles. And while I was disgusted by the behavior, I was even more upset to see the reaction of people online supporting it. Because, as with everything associated with this President, you may agree with the initial understanding of the most basic argument, but the way things are carried out with such inhumanity and callousness is just tragic and if you are in favor of it, then you are absolutely a bad person.

All That Glitters May Not Have Gold: A review of Taylor Swift’s The Life Of A Showgirl

All That Glitters May Not Have Gold: A review of Taylor Swift’s The Life Of A Showgirl

Taylor Swift has made it known that she does not like being called “calculated”, and I get it. To refer to a woman by that word implies a certain tone that one would not give to a man, who normally would be called something like “ambitious”. It’s a shame to me that she doesn’t like this term, because I consider the word a grand compliment and I believe it applies to the pop star. As we enter the tenth month of 2025, Swift has her twelfth album, The Life Of A Showgirl, out. And there is a lot that is needed to calculate.

The Swiftening, Part 12: The Life Of A Showgirl – The Life of Jesse from Saved By The Bell in Showgirls

Before December of 2020, Jordan Holmes (comedian, author, podcaster) had never, intentionally, listened to a Taylor Swift song. Then began The Swiftening, where Jordan decided to review every Swift album in order.  Want to see the rest of his reviews? Just click on “The Swiftening” tab above the title of this and it will take you to Jordan’s reviews of Ms. Swift’s last eleven works.

When A Good Idea Becomes A Bad Joke: Recapping the biggest mistake the Emmys may have ever seen

When A Good Idea Becomes A Bad Joke: Recapping the biggest mistake the Emmys may have ever seen

Sometimes, a joke can seem funny the first time you think about it. An idea pops into your head and it can make you laugh and laugh and you think it’s the most creative and hilarious idea you have ever come up with. It’s only after a little time passes that you realize that while they may be elements that are comical, the crux of the idea as a whole was a stinker and this was one of those things that needed a person to tell you, “Hey… let’s really think about why you think this is funny and what it’s about.”

This is exactly what happened when comedian Nate Bargatze hosted Sunday night’s Emmy awards. Bargatze, last year’s highest-grossing comedian and someone I believe is one of the best joke craftsmen working today, brought with him a through-line that he believed was going o be the star of the broadcast. However, what happened was the joke fell flat, he was wildly criticized, and television’s biggest night became the kind of thing where you had to cover your eyes every time the host stepped onstage.

Let’s talk about what happened, why it didn’t work, and the easy way to have made the joke a lot funnier.

Jordan Holmes Has Never Experienced Sexual Ecstasy

Jordan Holmes Has Never Experienced Sexual Ecstasy

I just returned home to Gretna, Nebraska, and I’ve noticed abundant changes here at Fancy Boys Club. The first is that this site is no longer mind-expanding by way of well-thought-out material written by me. The second is that some guy named Jordan Holmes has been writing a lot. Every article features his passport photo then a mugshot next to it. I spent the next few days researching this buffon and I came to the realization that Jordan Homens has never truly experienced sexual ecstasy.

Bop it! Twist it! Steal it! – written by Jordan Holmes

Bop it! Twist it! Steal it! – written by Jordan Holmes

A boundary is not a boundary if you can cross it. A principle is not a principle if it can be tossed aside. Once argument reaches the boundary, argument is over and conflict begins. We are in opposition. There is no argument to be had. If you disagree with my principles, you are wrong, incorrect, someone to be ignored and not listened to.

That is the definition of a principle.

Were You Lying? – written by Jordan Holmes

Were You Lying? – written by Jordan Holmes

I’ve been struggling deeply for the past week, I’ve been struggling with the same feeling I had during Alex Jones’ trial in Texas. I am bipolar, I am prone to mania, I’m prone to delusions of grandeur, so, in general, any time I think I can see something that the rest of the world cannot, I assume I am in the wrong.

Sometimes, I am suspicious that the rest of the world can, in fact, see what I see, and they are gaslighting me. I’m sure I’m right sometimes. But seeing the world through that lens will make you crazy, so no matter what the circumstances, it’s wiser to let it go.

But now, as in the trial, I know the rest of the world sees what I see and I know that the world is gaslighting me.

What’s more, what’s worse for my psyche, is that I know that when I talk to the TV, so to speak, the TV can hear me. I am fucking loud. I am not insane. I am not manic. I am not delusional.

All of you are out of your fucking minds.

Democracy is on the ballot

An open letter to comedy…

An open letter to comedy…

My name is Matt Drufke and I have been doing standup comedy while based in the Chicago suburbs for almost eighteen years. I love being a suburban comedian. I have always found the scene out here so supportive and caring and filled with people who care as much about how you’re doing as they care about how much you make them laugh. And perhaps this is why I find myself needing to write this. Because something happened this week and it bothered me enough where I wanted to write this.

I’m A Casualty Of Mass Layoffs

For the past eight years, I worked as an editor for GameSpot and Comic Vine–and I was a freelance writer prior to that. During this time, I wrote and published thousands of news pieces, editorials, features, reviews, and listicle galleries that I often called, “Fun toilet reads.” Additionally, I had the role of host/producer/editor of a wrestling podcast called Wrestle Buddies. I had what many considered to be the dream job. Then, one day, it was taken all away, as I was part of a group of people that were laid off by our parent company.

This isn’t something new. Throughout my years working at GameSpot through various parent companies, I saw this happen a few times. It was never easy. You lose people you talk to every single day, as they’re no longer in your work Slack. And from there, you grow apart from many of them. But after surviving numerous rounds of layoffs and seeing people move on, I was brought into a meeting on a Thursday morning and told I no longer had the gig of a lifetime. It still stings. It still hurts. And it’s hard to pick yourself up.
