There is this weird trend going around in conservative social media. I mean, pretty much anything those dorks do is weird. But this one really has me confounded. So I am asking you for your help.
Maybe you are a conservative and can help me make sense of this. Maybe you know someone who is a conservative and can ask them. Maybe you are pen pals with Roger Stone. Who knows? The world is a complicated place.
Anyways, back to this trend…
I’ve been seeing more and more memes from conservatives saying that no one should pay their taxes this year. The argument, as best as I can figure it out, is that these people are seeming to say that they are sick and tired of their tax money going into broken and corrupt systems and that until we get real change in how we are spending money, they are planning to take this April 15th off.
Now, I’m all about protest and grand statements as much as the next guy. Sometimes, the only way to get your point across is to raise a little hell and get all punk. And if Republicans want to let their protest flag fly (and do it without, you know, storming the Capitol) then who am I to say they are wrong?
Would Republicans be wrong for advocating for a tax boycott? I don’t know. Would they be hypocritical? Absolutely.
Also, more than just a little racist.
For months upon months now, the Republican party has tried to tell everyone who will listen that their immigration gestapos and detention centers called Alligator Alcatraz aren’t about hurting brown people; they’re simply against people who can’t follow the law. If these people would simply follow the law, no one would have a problem with them. This is just about prosecuting people for the crime of coming into the country illegally.
Well, if that’s true, then what the fuck is up with this bullshit?
How can they say what is happening with undocumented workers is only about the rule of law while advocating breaking the law because they don’t like how their tax dollars are being spent? If it even more hypocritical because tax evasion is a more serious crime than entering the country illegally? I mean, it’s not LESS hypocritical.
Do you think that maybe, just maybe, this is just about Republicans being racist dickbags all while expecting to not face any consequences if they decide to boycott Tax Day?
Like I said, help me make sense of this…
