FBC 2025 Oscar Coverage, Part III: Predicting the winners…

Happy Oscars, everyone!

This has been the least I have written about my favorite awards show in the history of this site and there are two big reasons for that. The first is that the major races have been the most fluid I have, possibly, ever seen since I’ve been watching the awards as a child. While some races seem to have solidified, there are few categories where I feel like you can lock in and say, “This is one you should bet a lot of money on.”

The second reason is more personal, which is that I have just been in a writing funk (and a general bummer mood) as of late. I tried to sit down and take some big swings, but it wasn’t even that I wasn’t swinging… I hadn’t even found the bat. This is life, I suppose. But it definitely sucks that my favorite pop culture evening is something I can’t really seem to muster up any excitement for. So, you’ll forgive me, but we’re just gonna do some quick predictions for all the categories. A couple upset specials here (and I will denote those), but in a weird year for movies (not bad, just odd), here is who the Oscars will go to tonight:


BEST PICTURE: Anora
BEST DIRECTOR: Sean Baker, Anora
BEST ACTOR: Timothee Chalamet, A Complete Unknown (Definitely an upset prediction with safe money on Adrien Brody)
BEST ACTRESS: Demi Moore, The Substance
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Kieran Culkin, A Real Pain
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Zoe Saldana, Emilia Perez (Just cannot pull the trigger for Ariana Grande)
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY: Anora (Hoping for A Real Pain to upset)
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY: Conclave
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE: Wild Robot
BEST INTERNATIONAL FEATURE: I’m Still Here
BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE: No Other Land
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: The Brutalist
BEST COSTUME DESIGN: Nosferatu
BEST EDITING: Anora (This is an upset special with Conclave being a safer bet, but I’m predicting a big Sean Baker night)
BEST MAKEUP & HAIRSTYLING: Wicked
BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN: Dune: Part 2
BEST SCORE: The Brutalist
BEST SONG: “El Mar” from Emilia Perez
BEST SOUND: Dune: Part 2
BEST VISUAL EFFECTS: Dune: Part 2
BEST ANIMATED SHORT: Beautiful Men
BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT: Anuja
BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT: Death By Numbers
