If you spend any time on social media, you will see someone weighing in with their “hot take” (sigh) on some issue. Lately, the issue that seems to have really gotten people going nuts has to do with transgender athletes, especially (or at least from my perspective) in the field of women’s sports.
Maybe you have some take you would like to share on social media. But should you? If you have any questions about this, don’t worry. I have made a quick guide to help you figure out if you should let the world know how you feel or maybe if you should consider stepping aside and keeping your feelings to yourself.
QUESTION #1. Have you ever cared about this sport before?
Have you attended a match? Can you explain the rules with ease? Can you name your favorite, or any, athlete in the sport? Have you ever watched a game/match/event on television?
If the answer to this question is “NO”, then you should just shut up. You don’t care about athletes and just want to spread your (almost certainly) hateful views, and no one needs that right now. Just take a nap.
If the answer to this question is “YES”, maybe also consider shutting up? Like, don’t get me wrong. I’m glad you’re supporting women’s sports and I hope you enjoy that, but you can also just be vocal in your support without feeling like you need to give some take.
Just enjoy the sport, for heaven’s sake.
